Getting back ON TOPIC, since many of you on both sides have done so well with (NOT)
This link might include more of the interview Mayor Ali did on WMBD AM.

Oh, and there are many local programs that specifically target young African Americans, especially youth and males. I'm sure Mayor Ali supports them. Why should she have to reinvent the wheel?

F**k these insane trackers, this place is not a healthy debate of issues anymore, just a bunch of folks trying to outdo one another. Where is the cancel account button?
After listening to the interview, it appears that Ali is not serious about fixing the crime problems in Peoria. She is very quick to blame guns, and not people, for the violence. She did briefly mention the epidemic of fatherlessness in Peoria, so that was good. No mention of the other cultural issues that need to be addressed. On the WMBD Radio Facebook page, there were two comments that I think hit the nail on the head:
RJ Rohlfing
As long as they keep referring to it as "gun violence" they're never going to get to the heart of the matter. The violence is a symptom of bigger issues, like a welfare system that traps generation after generation in a cycle of poverty and desperation, where gang affiliation all too often seen as not just OK but necessary, and good adult role models are hard to come by. Reversing that mindset will take generations of hard work.
Jim Simpson
Problem is not the gun, problem is violence and what causes it. We know from statistics that the tearing down of the traditional family unit and the church (which is 2 places where love and respect for life was being taught and fostered)is a major cause of violence and criminal behavior, Western Civilization is being attacked by ungodly Marxist teachings to our children in order to destroy the church and the traditional family. Let’s start there and begin to foster love again, it’s called Revival, a turning back to God and moral values.
Because they are obviously not working. We’re just over half way through the year, yet there have already been more murders this year than all of last year.DennisinMH wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 11:45 am

How many young Black men have to be shot to death before she comes up with a new plan?
Again, another strawman. Did you forget last year was a pandemic?Toldyouso wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 12:45 pmBecause they are obviously not working. You mean its not the flu!?!
so in a roundabout way you are crediting President Trump with reducing black violence? Gotcha.RPlant wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 7:43 pmAgain, another strawman. Only took killing 500,000 Americans. Great job Trump. Thanks, but no thanks.

In the 77 days since Mayor Ali was sworn in, 10 Black men have been shot to death. 7 people were killed January 1-May 4. We’re well on our way to surpassing the record of 25 homicides (2019). As I’ve pointed out elsewhere, more people in Peoria have died of gunshot wounds in the last two months than have died of Covid.RPlant wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 7:43 pmAgain, another strawman. Or car accidents, or plane crashes in Peoria, what is the point of that reference?Toldyouso wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 8:03 pmIn the 77 days since Mayor Ali was sworn in, 10 Black men have been shot to death. 7 people were killed January 1-May 4.
