I'm shocked I haven't seen this in the Peoria Journal Star  and I can't find an official press release, but it appears another local company has been purchased by an outside firm.

American Foods Group, a US-based beef producer, has acquired family-run business Calihan Pork Processors.

Calihan Pork Processors dates to 1937. Founded as Calihan & Co., it slaughtered 1,000 cattle a week in 1977. By 1981, the company hit hard times and closed its Peoria plant for six months that year. In 1987, it entered the hog slaughtering business for Hillshire Farms of New London, Wisconsin. The Peoria Journal Star ran a story October 1, 2017 noting that employment had grown to 100 from just 40 in 2003.

This is interesting. Thanks for posting this info. I have a high school friend that I was told used to be involved with this business process Downtown about 20 years ago. He lives in the Hanna City/Trivoli area. I don’t believe he is any more, but, he still seems to be successful. Last name is Varnes.
