Don't go by the calendar. There's a running gag that Illinois has 2 seasons: winter and construction.
Guess what, Construction season starts March 1st! IDOT already has electronic road signs out along I-74 in East Peoria about work on the Pinecrest overpass begins that day. Supposedly the overpass is being raised a few feet because too many semis have gotten stuck trying to squeeze under it on the interstate.
So celebrate the end of Winter!!

Traffic Changes Ahead on Western Avenue
Interruptions to begin Monday, March 1
PEORIA – February 25, 2021 – Traffic changes are ahead next week along Western Avenue on Peoria’s south side. The northbound right lane of Western Avenue from West Malone Street to West Lincoln Avenue will be closed beginning Monday, March 1 at 7 a.m. The closure is necessary for crews to begin relocating utilities in preparation for the upcoming Western Avenue reconstruction project.
Expect Minor Delays
Area drivers may encounter brief traffic interruptions while the work is underway. Drivers are asked to take it slow and use extreme caution when traveling through the work zone. The closure will be in place for around one month.
What’s Happening on Western?
The Western Avenue Community Investment Plan (CIP) project will span from Adams Street to Lincoln Avenue and will include "complete streets" concepts and construction of green infrastructure to control combined sewer overflows (CSOs).
Does this project mean Western will become the latest busy thoroughfare to be reduced to 1 lane each direction, with center turn lane, extra parking and bike lanes?
