I think I missed it. What is his plan?
Maybe I should have said, “at least he has his priorities straight.”
Focus on the boys/men of this age group. Admit that drug abuse is a major problem. Stopping the violence in Peoria deserves a higher priority than getting train service to Chicago.

@DennisinPeoria, were there any more murders elsewhere in Central IL you can use to deflect from this latest killing?

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A man was indicted Tuesday for allegedly leaving the scene of a deadly crash in August.

According to Peoria County court records, 39-year-old John Timothy Jr. allegedly left the scene of a crash near Howett Street and Western Avenue on Aug. 28.

Timothy was allegedly in the vehicle that crashed into 28-year-old Akeem Alexander who was riding a bicycle when he was struck. Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle involved in the crash was located with serious damage to the front end near Antoinette Street and Madison Park Terrace.

Timothy’s arraignment date is set for Sept. 27.

Question: Why is this not considered a homicide? Not being snarky, just trying to understand the difference here. @AV8R, or anyone else?

The victim died, so it's a Class 1 felony in Illinois. The only way to get it higher would be to charge homicide, which would involve proving knowledge and intent. They could charge manslaughter maybe, but that's a Class 3 felony.

I suspect they get the best bang for the buck and the easiest conviction charging leaving the scene.

That puts Peoria on a pace for 29 murders. What was the previous record set under Rita's watch?

Unfortunately, it has been, by Andy Kravetz:

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A man is dead after being shot on Peoria’s West Bluff early Monday morning, according to the Peoria County Coroner.

The man, whose name and age was not released by police or by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, appeared to have been shot sometime around 5 a.m. in the 1200 block of North Ellis Street. That’s near where Ellis intersects with Columbia Terrace.

Harwood said the case is being investigated as a homicide. It’s the city’s 23rd of the year.
