Metamora, Ill. (WMBD) — Illinois State Police troopers will be conducting checks next month to make sure drivers are safe.

In a news release, troopers based with District 8 in Metamora said roadside safety checks will be conducted throughout the month of July in both Peoria and Tazewell Counties. Troopers will focus on drivers “who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked drivers’ license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, and driving under the influence.”

Troopers said use of alcohol and drugs is a “significant factor” in over 40 percent of fatal traffic crashes in Illinois.

Argh. Make sure you have all your papers. I hate these checks. They always seem to happen when I've forgotten my wallet.

I keep mine rubber baned to the visor. NO SUDDEN MOVES. I haven't been pulled over since 1988.

Reminds me. Got to get a new driver's license and renew the tags. Both were due about 2 months ago, but DMV was closed. You could renew plates on line, but I was too cheap to pay their convenience fee plus since their building was closed I thought they should have waved that fee..

Thank you for posting that JustRight. I did not know that they extended the deadline. I did see the online fee is temporarily suspended so I may do that for the plate renewal. Got to keep SNMehr 1 on the road.

Heading to Home Depot soon, better remember my wallet... I can make payments with my watch, so I often forget my wallet.
