The current increase in crime is anything but small.

I watched most of it, archive link at https://www.centralillinoisproud.com/ne ... ty-monday/ .

Curious if anyone can elaborate on the two groups / two areas of the city that are at war with each other Chief Echevarria mentions.

The majority of this year’s 24 homicides have taken place in Peoria’s South Side and the East Bluff.

It looks like the new Chief is finally cracking some skulls. Kudos to him and his department. I just hope we don't start hearing whining about racial profiling from the SJWs.

The Peoria Police Department conducted a third patrol as part of its Anti-Violence Initiative Friday night, which led to more than a dozen arrests and multiple firearms and drugs seizures.

According to the department, there were:

• 14 arrests made

• Two loaded handguns and a spare loaded magazine seized.
33 grams of cocaine, 62 grams of cannabis, 14 Alprazolam pills and a scale seized.

• 19 traffic tickets issued.

• 76 vehicles stopped and 4 vehicles impounded.

• Four Shotspotter responses.

Edited:

I am a supporter of this initiative to get guns, felons, and criminals off the street, no matter their race. I do not call it profiling.

And before the 1st crackdown, the NAACP stood up with Chief Echeverria at that press conference to support the Anti-Violence initiative. They are also tired of seeing too many minorities getting shot and killed in the majority of the crimes. This is not the first time.the NAACP has supported a police Chief in helping crack down, realizing that "profiling" has to happen if you want a safer community.

How do you know that Mayor Ali, City Manager Patrick Urich, and Chief Echeverria didn't get together some time ago to talk about this initiative, once the Chief had crime data of where the hot spots were?

Granted, it was probably the Chief's idea, but he would have to get input and approval especially since it involves other Law enforcement agencies.

After all, it seems you have an inside knowledge knowing what the Mayor is doing...or not doing on a daily basis. So, has she spoken out against it?

This isn't the Rita Ali thread.

You and the NAACP leader may not be making accusations of profiling, but you are only two people out of thousands. It's been a common complaint in the past that has hamstrung the police from doing their jobs effectively.

That was the past, this is the present. People change, attitudes change. Who currently has spoken up calling it profiling since January 1, 2022?
