MORTON (WEEK) - Morton's public works director turned to social media on Friday, asking people to lower their thermostats below 68 degrees, hoping conversation measures will keep natural gas prices from soaring even higher.
In a Facebook post, Public Works Director Craig Loudermilk also asked businesses that use Morton gas to shut down until Sunday.
Loudermilk indicated there is light at the end of the tunnel, as incremental daily index prices for gas dropped from 8,000% increases Tuesday to expectations for 250% increases Friday and Saturday. Loudermilk expects a return to normal costs Sunday and beyond thanks to better weather and the village's conservation efforts.
