@Toldyouso

I respectfully disagree slightly. Zip codes can transcend across boundary lines between a city and county. If you check Google Maps for City of Peoria, zoom in on Laramie, you can see the border between the City and the County is Laramie Street itself. The liquor store is in the County zone.

But, I will wait to see who will actually add it to their homicide count.

I posted too soon. Got this from the Peoria County Sheriff's Department. But IMO, doesn't make a difference WHERE a homicide or shooting happens, both City and County administrations are aware of the crime problem, and are actively looking for ways to reduce crime.

Homicide
"PCSO Incident #23-5909
Released by Sheriff Chris Watkins

(Peoria County, IL) Saturday, August 26, 2023, at approximately 9:09 p.m. Peoria County Sheriff's Office and Peoria Police responded to Laramie Liquors at1841 S. Laramie St. on a male down in the parking lot that had been shot. When officers arrived, they located an adult male victim with apparent gunshot wounds. The male was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The victim's identity, and manner of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner at a later time. Currently, there is no suspect in custody at this time. This incident is under investigation. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact Lt. Ben Johnston at (309)634-5111 or Crime Stoppers (anonymously) at (309) 673-9000. You can also submit a tip through our Sheriff's App."

There is a lot more community support and awareness, therefore more people are involved to finding ways. However, it's not going to happen overnight, or even in a few months. If someone gets angry, how do you stop them from killing their mother? If someone is in a car, and gets killed in a crossfire of bullets, how can anyone stop that?

No one knows ahead of time the mindset of someone making the bad choice to go out and shoot, stab, strangle and/or kill someone.

They might be aware of the problem, but they are failing to "actively look for ways to reduce crime" in any meaningful way.

Number 18?

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A bicycle rider is dead after an early morning hit-and-run crash Monday in South Peoria, Peoria police reported.

Officers responded to the 1900 block of West Howett Street just after 3:30 a.m. on a report of a person struck by a vehicle. When they arrived, they found the victim in the intersection of Howett and South Western Avenue.

The person appeared to have severe injuries and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics, said Semone Roth of the Peoria Police Department.

Roth said the victim’s age has not yet been released.

The suspect’s vehicle fled the scene, and was located a short time later unoccupied in the 2100 block of West Antoinette Street, she said.

Officers with the assistance of a police dog conducted a search of the area with negative results.

We won't know until coroner determines it. Based on current information, it was a hit and run. If it is a homicide , it will still be 17. The coroner today in an interview with local media confirmed with Sheriff Watkins that the Laramie Liquors incident is a county homicide, not Peoria. The Sheriff's office is investigating, not the PPD.

Riding a bike at 3:30 am is dangerous, unless you're in good lighting, and have a light on bike plus reflective clothing. But I'm not blaming the victim, so let's all wait until investigation is complete.

I sincerely hope that we all pray a time period like the last 48 hours will never happen again. Too many shootings simply because of disputes and anger that started on social media (per Chief Echevarria at yesterday's presser).

"Lord, please put strength into all parents to keep their children safe from each other, calm their anger, put words in their hearts to use other methods to solve disagreements. Also, put into the hearts of those who pulled triggers to feel remorse, and turn themselves in so they may face the law of judgement. Because one day, all of us will be facing your judgement with the hope of forgiveness of all our sins. Entrust all police and leaders to continue to work with Neighborhoods to calm down the current anger that is out there, and show parents and children the ways of your word that a positive life following you will enrich their lives. Amen."
