I believe it is somewhat lower than previous 2 years. But doesn't matter, 1 homicide is still one too many. Especially if some are because of an argument that gets out of hand, when one person can only resolve it with a gun. Just glad the suspect is already arrested.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 9:40 A.M. - Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the 17-year-old teen has died earlier Wednesday morning.
Autopsy is scheduled for later Wednesday.
UPDATE 9:40 P.M. - A teenager suffered life-threatening injuries from a shooting in Peoria’s East Bluff Tuesday night, Peoria Police said from the crime scene.
Police were called at about 7:50 p.m. to the corner of North Wisconsin Avenue and East Kansas Street after a ShotSpotter alert indicated four rounds were fired.
Police did not have suspect information.

I believe this is the 14th Peoria homicide of the year, and there are reports of another person with life threatening gunshot wounds this morning.

Death Investigation

Peoria, IL
On 08/22/2023, at 4:16 am, Peoria Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the 2300 block of N. Wisconsin Ave., Peoria, for an unconscious, unresponsive female.
On arrival, Police and EMS found the female, 36-year-old Vanessa Tucker, without a pulse and not breathing. Resuscitation measures were initiated, and she was transported to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria in grave condition. Despite aggressive resuscitative efforts, Tucker was unfortunately pronounced dead at 5:33 a.m.
An autopsy on Tucker demonstrated that she suffered asphyxiation due to suffocation. This case is being investigated as a homicide and remains under investigation by the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
