NO!!!! So we can hopefully get rid of it once and for all. Why would you think I would want it to come back next year? That is just absolutely ridiculous. I'm

Come back next year? That implies it's going away. We're in this until we develop herd immunity, either by enough people getting infected or a viable vaccine. There is not currently a vaccine, as you know. If one is not developed, which is possible, that leaves the infection method.

If we keep locked down maybe we can extend herd immunity for 3-4 years in the absence of a vaccine. How many collateral deaths will we incur in that time?

And there's a lot of room between sending kids back this month vs. waiting a whole year! There are a lot of districts coming around and delaying start days, all. E-learning for the first quarter and such. If we listen to the professionals... Doctors and educaters... We will be OK. Children are resilient but the current climate isn't ripe for in person learning.

EXACTLY. Without a vaccine we will all get it eventually. How long are we willing to wait for a vaccine that may never come? The survival rate is north of 99.5%

Does your school district have the testing supplies it needs? I wonder if districts are requiring staff to get tested before school starts.

An interesting new perspective has arose.

Those districts that offer both in school and e-learning. If in-school teachers are busy all day with teaching classes, how will they have time to conduct virtual lessons for those that opt for that?

This issue was raised in a WMBD story from the Dunlap district. Students started a petition to the school board to reconsider. If teachers at busy, virtual teachers would have to be outsourced.

F**k these insane trackers, this place is not a healthy debate of issues anymore, just a bunch of folks trying to outdo one another. Where is the cancel account button?

Typically, students aren't logged in to e-learning, with the teacher present, all day. You're right, though, assistance and extra remediation are going to be challenging.

Teachers are amazing and will make this work! If we buckled down and took the virus seriously, we could have classes back to normal in a few short months but it doesn't appear the grown ups are willing to make that sacrifice.
