Tucker Carlson claims that the FBI is behind the White House insurrection. Don't know how credible he really is. With that being said, Lightfoot and Chicago is a mess right now.

I respectfully disagree with the assessment here that Chicago Mayor is saying racism is causing the gun violence.

What then causes the gun violence between whites? There is plenty of that around the country, just not as much in urban areas.

Racism has been around for years. I witnessed some while at the agency.

What do you classify the reports of whites calling the cops on Blacks in past couple of years? Examples such as a Black UPS driver just doing his job, had his uniform and truck nearby; a Black woman and kids entering a complex private pool that they belong to, a black man using an exercise facility in the apartment building where he lives. Then there is the one woman who called the cops on a black man who is a birdwatcher, because he complained her dog was not on a leash, as required by law. There are more examples, but you get the idea. (Chalk me up for another whataboutism, I don't care anymore)

@DennisinMH, this thread is about shootings in Chicago, approximately 150 miles from where we live. Of the 312 people who have been murdered there so far this year, 83% were Black, and 13.5% were Hispanic. They are NOT being killed by cops (of any color). They are being killed by members of their own race, usually gang members.
The numbers of shootings (and deaths) went DOWN there during the Trump administration, as he sent in Federal help to assist the police in Chicago. The “defund the police” crowd is now in power, and those shootings and murders are at/above the 2016 levels. Public policy has consequences. Chicago’s Black and Brown communities are the collateral damage of the current policies.

I wasn't the one that brought up the subject of Mayor Lightfoot. I was simply responding to that comment.

Everyone here at some point goes off topic. It happens. It's not a big deal to me anymore.

Mayor Lightfoot IS part of the problem. She has refused federal help in the past, is critical of the police, and the shootings and murders in the city she leads have gone up sharply since she took office. The buck stops at her desk.

By the way, there was ANOTHER mass shooting in Chicago earlier this week. 8 were shot, and 4 died of their wounds. This happened early Tuesday (June 15) morning:
“ Eight people were shot, four fatally, during an argument inside a home in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood early Tuesday, authorities say.

Chicago police said they responded to a call of multiple people shot after 5:30 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Morgan Street. There was an "argument at a gathering" inside a residence and shots were fired, according to police.

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Chicago police. Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said during a press conference Tuesday that three of the deceased were women and one was a man.”

In America, an estimated 16,425 people were murdered in 2019. This was a 0.3% increase from the 2018 estimate.

Chicago ranked 28th in 2019. Feign much?

This thread isn’t about other cities, it’s about a major city in the state in which we live. But, you’re right…it’s worse here in River City:

Monday was one of the deadliest days in Chicago this year, following a weekend when more than 50 people were shot
There have been at least 317 homicides in Chicago this year, up from 302 this time last year.

By Sun-Times Wire Updated Jun 22, 2021, 2:55pm CDT

Chicago recorded one of its deadliest days of the year Monday, following a week of mass shootings and a weekend where at least 52 people were shot across the city.

There were at least seven homicides on Monday, one shy of the worst day for murders in Chicago so far this year. That was just a week ago when eight people were shot to death, including four at a mass shooting in Englewood.

Five of the seven homicides occurred in neighborhoods that are seeing more murders this year than last year, according to Sun-Times data: Roseland, Woodlawn, East Garfield and North Lawndale.

One of the homicides was in the Morgan Park neighborhood, which is even with last year. The other was in Fuller Park, which saw no homicides last year.

The violence followed a weekend that saw seven people killed and 45 others wounded. The victims included a Maryland grad student stabbed to death Saturday afternoon in the Loop, and a couple shot to death during the Puerto Rican Day parade later that night.

Last week, Chicago was hit by two mass shootings: four killed and four wounded in an Englewood home; and five people wounded in a shooting in West Garfield Park.

In all, there have been at least 317 homicides in Chicago this year, up from 302 this time last year. Last year ended with 775 homicides, an increase of more than 50% from 506 murders in 2019.

It is completely out of hand. If someone knew what to do they would be very, very welcome to step forward and end this SENSELESS VIOLENCE. It is a major problem that seems to have no end in sight. WHAT? can be done? WHAT? will it take? All big cities have their share if problems, but this ranks among the worst. It can be stopped, HOW? is the BIG question.
