I remember having a belt used on me as a kid when in trouble. But how often are they used today?

This mom goes to town when her 17-year old son skips his "Remote Learning Class"

F**k these insane trackers, this place is not a healthy debate of issues anymore, just a bunch of folks trying to outdo one another. Where is the cancel account button?

NEVER. NEVER. NEVER.
People don't care how much you know.
They want to know how much you care.

If you raise your children right from the very beginning there should NEVER be any need for physical discipline. I have raised both boys and girls. I NEVER once laid a finger on them for disciplinary action. They turned out to be great people. All top ten in their high school academic list. One of them being a valedictorian. All college graduates, one with a master's degree. Very successful in their lives, employment, marriages, families and more. Education, Caring, Loving, Teaching, Spending Quality Time, all of these things make good people. There is ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for physical discipline.

I absolutely agree with everything you said, however your story is not everyone's story.
I was raised the same way you said, and every now and then when I stepped out of line...well let's just say I know what the belt is. I can count on one hand the number of times I experienced it, and now decades later I can still remember the lesson learned.

There is a time and a place for everything in moderation. Discipline and abuse are not the same thing.

We experienced physical punishment from time to time, I being the recipient of most of it. However, my parents had protocol. You received 3 warnings to stop whatever offensive behavior you were causing (or if the neighbor ratted you out for doing something bad, no three strike rule). After that, well..... It was never immediate, never done in anger. We were sat down in their bedroom and you had the opportunity to plead your case (which only got me out of one paddling if I remember correctly). You were then told how many swats you were going to get. It was always with the same paddle, which was its only purpose......no belts, pingpong paddles, tree branches, etc. and always on the backside....no random thwackings like in the above video. And when I got too old for that, somehow, my car would mysteriously not start the next day. One sister graduated valedictorian from Eureka College and holds several degrees. Other sis has two masters. I only have three associates degrees, but at least I can connect my Roku player to my TV    We didn't turn out too bad, either.
Why do I feel some sort of ridiculous retort will occur in 3.........2........1...........

My sons got time outs. They hated those.
