Fatal Hit & Run Arrest

(PEORIA, IL) On Monday, January 13, 2025, at approximately 1:01 a.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of MLK Drive on a report of a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male (38 years old) down on the roadway. The victim had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Officers immediately began life-saving measures before the victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 1:15 a.m. the victim was pronounced deceased by the Peoria County Coroner.
During the course of this investigation, detectives identified 36-year-old Demoriel L. Sims as the suspect in this case.
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, detectives apprehended Sims and transported him to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes.
Sims was subsequently arrested for a Felony Crash Involving Death, Failure to Report an Accident involving Injury or Death, Failure to Render Aid, Failure to Notify Police of a Crash, and Operation of a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration.
He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.

Instead, they’re reporting the “first” Peoria homicide of the year is a grisly shooting death that happened in an apartment building near Pioneer Parkway.

According to police, just before 9 p.m., officers were sent to the 2400 block of West Howett Street after an alert from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system indicated six rounds had been fired. Then, there were more alerts for five and then two sounds in the same area.
That’s near Manual High School.
When officers arrived, they found a 34-year-old man who had been shot several times. He was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.
The identity of the victim and cause of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner.

The boy was identified as a suspect and arrested for first-degree murder in connection to the death of 34-year-old Michael Drummond.
He was arrested at a Peoria home, according to a news release from Peoria Police.
