Which PPD Facebook page was that? I only saw the initial one, at 12:10 am, which indicates the coroner had yet to issue an official cause of death. This is the link to the official Peoria Police Department FB page. The post after that is from October 15th. Sorry, I don't see a PPD FB post at 1 am. Maybe PPD has more than one page.

Edit: they had homicide listed at top of the incident report, even though the posting says that the coroner had not yet declared it a homicide. Oh well. Let's hope the suspect is apprehended fast, as many have been this year.
Translation - Dennis spoke too soon and was wrong again.

I wouldn’t have cheered your pointing this out if @DennisinPeoria hadn’t (wrongly) accused me of doing the same.

PEORIA (WEEK) -- Peoria Police have opened a homicide investigation after an apparent shooting in the East Bluff neighborhood Friday evening.

Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of North California Ave. around 7:15 PM after a ShotSpotter alert registered multiple rounds had been fired.

That's just a few blocks away from OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

When officers arrived, they found a male who appeared to have been shot and was unresponsive.

The victim was taken to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The Peoria County Coroner will release the official cause of death after an autopsy, which will likely take place on Saturday.

Police did not release any suspect information.

This is Peoria's 26th homicide of 2021, the most the city has recorded in a single year and the third in the month of October.

If you have any information, call Peoria Police at (309) 673-4521 or Crime Stoppers at (309) 673-9000. Reports to Crime Stoppers are anonymous.

Just to make sure, has WMBD confirmed this is a homicide?

Not so far.
WCBU has, though:
“Peoria set a grim milestone Friday with the city's 26th reported homicide of the year, breaking the previous record set in 2019.

Officers responded to the 1700 block of N. California Ave. on a ShotSpotter alert just after 7:15 p.m.

Police found an unresponsive male with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Information on the victim will be released by the Peoria County Coroner's Office following an autopsy.

There is no suspect information.

Anyone with information can call Peoria Police Department at (309) 673-4521or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (309) 673-9000.“

So this could be a suicide according to our resident media person. Maybe there is nobody in the newsroom yet to make it official.

If there had been surely WAP's own media personality would have been live on scene.

From the Journal Star:
“PEORIA — A 15-year-old boy has been identified as the latest person to be killed this year by gunfire, the Peoria County coroner announced Sunday afternoon.
Rayton Brock, who lived in South Peoria on West Nevada Street, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and likely died within minutes of being shot, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
….
His death was the city's 26th homicide of the year, the most Peoria has seen in at least 30 years according to Journal Star archives.“

Any ideas on how we can stop these senseless and tragic killings?
