News media reporting on Gov. Pritzker's visit to Peoria yesterday to announce the SYEP program. Now, this is a Summer employment youth program that the Urban League ran for years, until,.for some reason, funding nationally was cut. While at PCCEO, I sometimes had 2-3 youth work for me learning video, run camera in studio productions, etc.
Now, with funding because of COVID, at-risk youth age 16-20 can again receive employment training and skills while earning.a wage. While the summer program used to start at the end of the school year, I'm sure the delay is due to the Pandemic. About 250 youth will be busy during the day, meaning less issues being on the streets.
