PEORIA (WEEK) -- Police say a man fired a gun in the direction of an officer Monday afternoon in Peoria, but no one was injured in the incident.
The officer, in plain clothes, did not return fire, said Peoria Police Department spokesperson Amy Dotson.
At around 12:30 p.m. Monday, the plain-clothes officer observed a man with a gun get into a vehicle in the area of McArthur Highway and Romeo B Garrett Avenue. The officer followed the vehicle and asked for marked police cars to make a traffic stop, said Dotson.
At that point, the vehicle with the suspect stopped and the occupant got out and fired shots in the direction of the officer, Dotson said.
The officer then asked for backup.
The suspect fled on foot toward Third and Sarataga before he was taken into custody in the area of MacArthur and Third.
Dotson said shell casings and a gun were recovered after a search.
Two other occupants in the vehicle were also taken into custody for questioning.
No other information was available on arrests or the name of the suspect involved in the incident.
